Research and Needs Assessment

The educational backwardness among the Muslim community in India. Based on the secondary literature, the paper argued that there have been several socio-economic and family reasons affecting the low level of enrolment of Muslim children. By examining the latest data, the ILM-E-HUDA analyses the low enrolment and participation of Muslim children at both school and higher educational levels. They are laggard in every level of the education system. This has resulted in the poor socio-economic outcomes of the Muslim community. They are engaged in informal activities such as masonry, construction industry, plumbing, mechanic work, rickshaw pulling and all types of low paid jobs. The ILM-E-HUDA highlights that the statistical data related to Muslim community and their educational profile, participation of Muslim children in Madrasas and latest data on Madrasas are limited and confined to a certain context.
